Kings’ Highway

The “Kings Highway 101” refers to El Camino Real (meaning “The Royal Road” or “The King’s Highway”) which is the historic road and modern U.S. Route 101 that connected the 21 Spanish missions in Southern California. My first and maybe favorite ever car was a “Royal” 71 SS El Camino, which I bet I lost more cops with than Smokey (and the Bandit) and the Dukes (of Hazard) ever did combined.

In the Bible, (Num 20:17, 21:22) the King’s Highway refers to a major, ancient trade route stretching from Damascus to the Gulf of Aqabah. It is most famous as the path Moses and the Israelites asked to take while traveling to the Promised Land. They were denied and had to take round about routes.

My house in WA was EXACTLY 6,660 miles away from the center of Nazareth where Jesus, Mary and Joseph were from and now I realize it’s also 6,660 miles from many points on that highway! We have been searching for more and more answers as to what all is special about Garberville, CA and Highway 101 which we of course use a lot as the only thoroughfare that goes anywhere in our area. (Unlike Moses who was not allowed on the Kings’ Highway. Seeing all the metaphors yet?) Yea, so this answered a little bit more than we already had.

Isaiah 35:8 tells us the term Kings’ Highway is also used as a spiritual metaphor for the “Highway of Holiness”—a pure and secure path that the redeemed of the Lord will walk upon on their way to heaven.

Rev 21:1-8 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and the first earth was gone, and the sea is now no more. And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them. And they shall be his people; and God Himself with them shall be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away. And He that sat on the throne, said: Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me: Write, for these words are most faithful and true. And He said to me: It is done. I am Alpha and Omega; the beginning and the end. To him that thirsteth, I will give of the fountain of the water of life, freely. He that shall overcome shall possess these things, and I will be his God; and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
